PRESENTATION
Recent research conducted in ARTIS - Institute of History of Art (FLUL) in the area of Gothic architecture in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula allowed new methodological and scientific approaches to the subject, thus permitting the creation of a skilled working group for studying these themes. The integration of these researchers and ARTIS in an international network dedicated to this subject (Red Temática de Investigación Cooperativa sobre el Arte Tardogótico (Siglos XV-XVI) allowed its adequate international framing. The participation of this group of researchers in the first congress entitled La Arquitectura Tardogótica Castellana entre Europa y América in Santander in 2010, and in a second edition, Sevilla, 1514: Arquitectos tardogóticos en la encrucijada in Seville in 2014, allowed the necessary international visibility to the research conducted in Portugal and the subsequent creation of a network of specialized researchers.
In this context it was also relevant the implementation of the research project Magister – A Arquitetura Tardo-gótica Portuguesa (PTDC/EAT – HAT/119346/201), as well as the scientific partnerships with other projects such as: Arquitetura tardogotica en la Corona de Castilla: trayectorias e intercambios (University of Cantabria), Un modelo digital de información para el conocimiento y gestión de bienes inmuebles del patrimonio cultural (University of Seville), Gótico Catedralicio Sevillano. Arquitectura y Ciudad en los Ámbitos de Influencia de la Catedral de Sevilla (University of Seville) and COSMED: From Stereotomy to Antiseismic Criteria: Crossroads of Experimental Design. In Portugal there are also other groups of researchers carrying out relevant studies on these subjects, thus it is important to create a space for discussion and scientific reflection on architecture in Portugal and Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries.
In this context, the III International Congress of the Late Gothic will take place in Lisbon on November 20-22, 2017, with the theme From Trace to Edification (15th and 16th centuries). This scientific event is organised by ARTIS - Institute of History of Art (FLUL), CLEPUL - Centre for Lusophone and European Literatures and Cultures (University of Lisbon), with the partnership of University of Cantabria, University of Zaragoza, University of Seville and the Red Temática de Investigación Cooperativa sobre el Arte Tardogótico (Siglos XV-XVI).
